Tax Refund?

I moved to the UK in January 2007 and commenced work in March. I recently received a P60 stating that my earnings for the tax year up to April 2007 were £1,375.39 and I paid £188.59 in tax. As I didn't use my basic allowance in full, can I reclaim the £188.59 and if so how do I do this?

Contact the tax office - it should be shown on the P60

You need to send your P60 along with a P86 form (Arrival in the UK) to the tax office which deals with your employer OR go to your local Inland Revenue Enquiry Centre with the above.

It normally takes 4 to 6 weeks for a refund to be sent to you.

The P86 can be downloaded here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/p86.pdf

if your still working for this company you will need to complete a Foorm P46 to stop this continuing to happen. However you will need a UK National Insurance number for this. An appointment at your nearest NI office will get you one.
