Help With First Mortgage

Hello all,

Just reserved our first house, a new build property. We were recommended by the housebuilder to use a company called Meridian Mortgages. Which I have never heard of and cannot find much information on. So I have spoken to Meridian and they want me to email copies of the passports, wages slips and the house reservation form over to their advisor, so that they can apply for the help to buy loan for us.

Obviously I have reservations about emailing confidetial info to a person I have spoken to briefly once. And from looking at the help to buy site the homebuilder sshould have filled in the forms for the help to buy with us, and I can't see passports and wage slips as part of the supporting documentation for the help to buy loan?

So I guess I have a few questions, has anyone ever used Meridian Mortgages?

Does this sound like the correct process for the help to buy?

yes they need id, you don't have to use theirs. I wouldn't, and I have bought through barratts
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I personally would be very hesitant in using the developers recommended provider. Personally I think you need to keep the mortgage and developer elements very separate and distinct - you don't know what the relationship is like between the 2 or where the links are, and the last thing you want is for parties to be conversing with each other without you knowing.

My advice would be to go and find your own broker or go to your high street lender.
