16th birthday party ideas?

It's my sixteenth at the end of September and I really want a big party! The problem is is that I only really have about 50 people that I want to come, and probably only about 35/40 people will end up coming (my party will be during September weekend so people will be on holiday...). My mum and dad said I can't have a party with that little people, as any hall I book will look empty unless I have lots of people going. House parties are a no go because my house is quite small.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do? Ideally I want a party where everyone can get dressed up and have a good night, as opposed to going bowling or shopping or something.
Money isn't too much of a deal, with my saturday job wages I should have £200, and my mum and dad will probably spend about £150 as I don't want many presents. Ill also get birthday money from it so I'm not too worried about that, £300 is my budget kind of.
All ideas are appreciated

How about looking at local restaurants and seeing if any have a small function room available? If you were over 18 I'd recommend renting out a room in a pub. I'm not sure of your location but in most cities pubs will often have a room upstairs to hire out for small private parties, usually the spaces are a lot smaller than a hall for hire. It might be an option if your parents, the guest's parents and the pub are ok with it.0
