area to live

hello!
I am looking for as cheap as possible places to live and commute to central London in a reasonable time.
Given that I want to commute only 2-3 times per week, would it be better to live outside London and commute to the center?
If yes, which areas are cheap, and have links to central London?
Thanks!

What is your budget?0

You'll probably find that unless you are close enough to commute by Bus, that coming in only 3 days per week won't save much compared to a weekly season.
There are a couple of places with fast but expensive transport links - Ebbsfleet/Gravesend in Kent being the main ones - where property is still relatively cheap (compared to London, anyway).
Are you looking to rent or buy? Purchase prices vary across London and the SE much more than Rents.0 -
my budget would be ideally less than 400 pcm all inclusive for a studio

You'll only get house shares for that budget in London.
If you wanted your own place, you can get it, but way outside London, and the cost of the commute would be quite large.
edit: You might get something in Gravesend for that budget. Gravesend is on the high speed link to St Pancras (takes about 20 mins).0 -
unfortunately I only saw unfurnished studios in Gravesend but I will keep an eye
how much is the ticket from Gravesend to St Pancras?0 -

'The ticket' may cost you £36.00 per day for an Anytime Travelcard Return.
Or an Off Peak Day Return is £15.60.
On the other hand, an annual season ticket is from £3084.00 to £4784.00, depending on route etc.
See the National Rail Enquiries Season Ticket Calculator for details.
I thought you were working in Cambridge?0 -
the cost is enormous
I would see feasible a return ticket of around £10
I declined the Cambridge offer.0
