I bought my brother one of these for Christmas - might be useful for the 'spare cash' ideas.

Brill ideas what a thoughtful sister you are :) I did a similar thing for my godson when he went to uni. Got a large laundry basket and filled it with useful bits and bobs. Yes doorstop for the trips up and down the stairs unloading the car. I bought giant bags of pasta, rice, toilet rolls, toothpastes, soaps, cleaning stuff, wooden spoons, pizza cutter, mugs, crate of beer, saucepans, frying pan, plasters, sewing kit, biscuits, sweeties, savoury rice, pot noodle, tin foil, cling film, bin bags. Toiletries are expensive so I bought deodorants etc. agree too with the condoms etc although think freshers week has that covered. Also did a tesco delivery once a month he craved proper cooked meals bless him and asked for fruit and veg weirdo!!
