Mortgage on Maternity Leave

Hi,

In a bit of a pickle here and looking for advice.

We recently got a Mortgage in Principal from the Woolwich, however it has now transpired that the company my wife worked for, on approaching them for a return to work date, have advised that they have made the role redundant.

Prior to this, they had confirmed full time employment in a letter they sent us 2 weeks ago, but no return to work date.

On pushing them for this information, that the underwriters requested, they looked into it in more detail and it seems that the manager who dealt with the employment has now left the company and essentially cocked it all up.

Initially they rang and advised this was the case and that they would offer a role back at the company from 4JAN (return to work) verbally over the phone.

We have now received the letter from them advising of the redundancy and we're now stuck between them and the Woolwich as we've provided initial information which has now been pulled from under our feet by my wife's employers which leaves us a bit high and dry.

As we are taking a Springboard mortgage out with the (essentially 15% deposit) and my wife does indeed to return to work on 4JAN - and we have an account with Barclays from which we've paid out rent (which is the same as the mortgage) every month, on time for years - are they typically lenient? or do we send in the initial employment confirmation letter without the return to work date, and hope?

HELP! :(

Your wife can give notice of when she intends to return, or not at all, at a later date. The employer has no say other than maximum leave is 52 weeks. Your wife is required to give 8 weeks notice of when she intends to return if earlier than this.

Your wife at the earliest opportunity should meet with her employer. Face to face in person is the easiest way of clarifying the position.
