Thomson Airline 'bad weather' story?

Hi - just looking for some advice on claiming back around £250 of expenses from Thomson due to a flight delay of 17 hours. They claim the delay was due to bad weather and the incoming plane could not land. This is strange as the weather was a little overcast after a day of sun (usual weather for the island), another plane had landed in the same weather n hour earlier and once on board the pilot advised the delay was due to incorrect paperwork about the weather (not the weather itself). On arrival Thomson handed out a letter confirming the delay was due to the weather and I believe they have done this to avoid any claims. I am not looking for compensation but I do believe I should not be out of pocket. I know it's not a large amount but it's significant to us.
Any suggestions on pursuing this would be gratefully received.
