Harrods Grotto

I am typing this whilst hiding behind sofa to avoid a barrage of missiles and insults. I did manage the title without mentioning the c word!

My "little one" is far too old for this bit I thought it may be of interest to some. Advance booking for Harrod's Christmas Grotto is £10 per booking, not per child, when you use your reward card. This is refunded when you attend. Children receive a book, badge and chocolate.

Got my email today but not sure we will be going this year. All my grandchildren were under school age last year and it was easy to organize a mid-week visit to London for all concerned. Now that two of them are at school, it would have to be at a weekend or into the Christmas holidays and not sure I can face London then.

Saying that, they did really enjoy it except for the fact that they didn't get a present from Santa but I got round that by using the £10 refunded booking fee on a few little (very little) gifts.

    Certainly worth a visit once.
  • We went on a Sunday last year (23rd December) and it was all very easy, even though I was a week off my due date.

We usually go on the train/tube but as I was so heavily pregnant we decided to drive into London and use Harrod's car park (and although very expensive, it actually cost less than the train/tube).

We arrived early but the Grotto staff took pity on me once they saw I was so heavily pregnant and said that I needn't stand in the queue - we went via the back door to see Father Christmas.

We've gone every year since 2006 and my children absolutely love it. They've been asking since June whether or not it's time to book for the Grotto. We normally go late in December but this year the children decided that they wanted to see the parade so we are going at the beginning of November which will be rather strange being as we don't "do" Christmas in our house until Christmas Eve.

All weekends sold out already, only just had confirmation of DH's holiday from work, absolutely gutted DS2 has never been :-(
  • I had this problem last year, Keefcat cos I was holding out for Selfridges who decided to ditch the grotto.

Found lots of good alternatives on the web, so much to do in London that you can really make a day of it.
