Hello all! New here-BR booked for later this month

Hi all,

Just thought I'd say hello & tell you a bit about myself & how I feel about this BR thing!

I'm 41 & have been c**p with moneysince I was 18. yes-I've done silly things when a little younger like take out loans & move but it always comes back to you in the end. My monthly income is commision-only based (on a self-employed basis) & is very variable & has been hit by the internet a lot recently. I have a huge 2nd loan with a not-very nice 'sub-prime' lender (starts with a w!) & my secured loan outgoings (inc. mortgage) is £800, this is not taking in to account the heavy arrears on both (nearly at court for repo hearing-date not given yet). Well behind on this/last years council tax & the 'straw that broke the camels back' is a county court claim for £80000 for a mortgage shortfall from 18 years ago (yes-checked this & I 're-started' the collection clock at 11 1/2 months-so they can take me to court). My house is not in good order-41 year old 'lad' with 21 year old head (!) & in all honesty would need £10-£15k's worth of work doing to it.

My other 1/2 went BR 3 years ago (young, daft & out of her depth with money)-I even went with her to the OR'S meeting so am completely familiar with the situation (she got discharged after 6 months)-so I knew I should have done the same. I am very behind with tax/ni & was under the misguided impression I'd be put in clink for it so that to a degree stopped me, but on speaking to a good friend who's a policeman my mind was put at rest over this. Also, some great great advice from 'ask the expert' on the debt help uk site (a money advisor called Simon Wiggins) has given me the much needed 'push' to do this thing & re-start my life. I was getting very, very depressed (& in all honesty was drinking too much-it don't help at all!), not taking my own advice at all!

I suppose it was a 'pride' thing (Omg-how have I f****d up my life so much!) & also the prospect of losing my house (will give voluntary repo-send keys back, 10days-14 days or so after BR-have a large room to rent in a good friends flat-good old WH SMITH tennancy packs).

The moment I called to book the day I felt huge relief!! I've also managed to put off bailiffs, etc until early July so that's an acheivement, & I've already been to the court & they've signed the exemption form-so that's £150 off the toal already-result!

In all honesty I'm not too worried about Court (having been with OH) but the OR meeting slightly unnerves me (fessing up to a stranger just how you've cocked things up!). No IPO/IPA as I'm £300 'in the red' on my SOA.

Thanks for listening! A chance of a fresh start at 41-wish I'd done this a few years back! Will post my SOA nearer the time. Am off on hols (won in a work competiotion-all-inclusive so no spending money worries-think I may neglect to use my card abroad though!) on Tuesday for a week & the deed will be done a few days after I get back.

Great board this-lots of help for all. God-just seen the length of this thread-will leave you all in peace now!
