Looking for advice on going to Glagow Ikea

Hi Guys,

I'm moving house in a few weeks and I'm planning on hiring a van to go down to Ikea in Glasgow. I hate shopping at the weekends because it's usually so busy but I've only got weekends off between now and moving. So my question is when is the best time to go - Sat or Sun evening or Sat or Sun morning? Also we'll need to book a cheap hotel nearby like a travelodge or similar - any suggestions?

ive been at various times at the weekend and its always busy no matter when i go.check opening times as im sure they dont open until 10am but that might have changed as i was caught out a few years back as i went there at 9am but they came out with free tea and coffee when we were waiting.

as for hotels its near glasgow airport -think its 1 junction on the motorway so there should be some cheapish places near there sorry i dont know of any others

Ikea is junction 25/26 and the airport is 28 I think so the airport hotels would be really handy. Theres a holiday inn express and a holiday inn too I think. Theres also a premier travel inn at the retail park in Paisley which is pretty much right at Linwood so thats pretty handy there too.

For the least busy time I would prob say late afternoon on a Saturday. Its pretty busy all morning and lunch time but I think after 3 or 4ish its a bit quieter, its only open till 7 at weekends though so make sure you leave yourself enough time to get everything your after.

  • Hi there,

Ikea have changed their opening hours now and on saturday/sunday open from 9am.

I have been early on i.e. left little people with hubby and gone up for them opening and it is "quieter"

Is a nighmare at weekends - best bet would be to get there early I think as we normally arrive at braehead at 11am ish and the car park at ikea is packed...

Have you thought about going on a Friday night? they are open until 10pm - just a thought...

Ikea is only 15 minutes away from Glasgow City centre so have a look round for hotels guest houses etc.

Parking may be a bit of an issue in some places, but at least if you stay in town you will have something to do in the evening

You would probably find a reasonable little hotel or B&B in Renfrew, Paisley or Hillington, they are nearest. Airport hotels are expensive.
I would go early on either Saturday or Sunday

I find the best time to go to Ikea is a Friday night - sad I know but it is always very quiet. Could you not come down on the Friday and stay over to the Saturday, then yuo can always go back through again on the Saturday if you have forgotten anything. It is open to 10pm on a Friday too - Ohh my ideal night out!!!!!

Can recommend the Ramada at Glasgow airport- if you can get it for the same price as the others- nicer decor, but along the same lines as a Premier Inn.:D
