On what basis would you be looking to get them back? What charges are they?

  • I was going through a bad time financially and they were changing £12 a call and £12 a letter and I think this is excessive

Unfortunately for you, it doesnt matter what you think. You cannot complain about charges being unfair or excessive. The banks wont that argument in 2009.

And, to be honest, £12 is not excessive for work carried out. Cumulatively it could add up to a lot but in isolation, that is not too bad.

You are welcome to make a case to them if you are in financial hardship and ask them to consider refunding some of those charges to make it easier to repay the debt. However, under no circumstances should you mention unfair or excessive or words similar to that.

£12 a pop is in accordance with the 2006 OFT ruling that anything over £12 was unfair and excessive.

Which is why most lenders charge £12.
