Probably out of place but;
I thought UV rays didn't penetrate glass, ie, you can't get sunburnt sitting in your frontroom or driving your car into the sun.
So I have transition glasses as they call them now, formally known as polychromatics, photo sensitive, etc.
I had 1 a pair of clear glasses on the coffee table, along with a pair of "transitions". Full sun through the bay window.
The glasses went 1/2 dark compared with the standards.
How does this work???????????????

Modern Double glazing and single pane glass block a % of UV light (Car windscreens block a lot of UV) so transitions don't tend to work well indoors or in cars.
test the glasses in side as well as outdoors you'll see they will get darker outside.
Also their are 2 kinds of UV light (UVa and UVb) one is blocked easily by the glass the other not so much.
Think the glasses react to UVa light (which does the most damage to the eyes)
can never remember which is which with UVa/bLaters
