New Job emloyers want to do a credit check !!

I've just started a new job and because of a few issues there end i've worked through an agency for the last 8 weeks - i got my contract through on friday and they want to do a credit check !! - i'm scared that i'll loose the job but i'm not sure what they are looking for - they want to do a credit check for "Good Repute" as they are regulated by the FSA although the area i'm working in has no involvement in the money or pensions side of things
I have 6 defaults on my credit record from three years ago does anyone know what they are looking for ? i've no CCJ's or bancrupcy but i'm terrified of being out of work and i love the new job !!
has anyone got any idea of what they look for

  • I don'tknow, I've never heard of that before. I was going to say in case you'd been involved in any type of fraud, but that would be a CRB check. Sorry I can't be more help but I did't want to 'read and run' lol

    Hi Flaura

I'm no expert but I think what all they will be looking for is BR, IVA's, CCJ's or fraud. I'm sure I saw a post somewhere saying this and that they will be more bothered that you can do the job rather than a few defaults.
Like I said, I'm not entirely sure but sure somebody will be along soon with more info.

    Good luck

Be up front with your employers before they do the check. I had to go through this when I worked for a bank years ago - I had CCJ's and defaults - I was upfront and provided letters of satisfaction/repayment plans and had no problems.

As someone who working in the Financial industry and has had his own share of money problems - a lot of FSA-regulated businesses will do a credit check (most banks/investment banks do background checks as well).

I've always been upfront with employers when it got to the contract and background check stage and told them "if you're running a background check, this is what you will find" and I've never had a problem with it. However, had I not bothered, I would've most likely lost out on the job as they don't like discovering things like that.

Mind you, this is one of the areas where it's sometimes easier to work as a contractor for exactly that reason...
