Following recent debt problems as a result of an underpayment to NPower [see NPower: Unexpected massive increase in monthly payments] its been suggested I get in touch with a company called GW Financial Solutions. The person who suggested them has used their services and been very impressed. BUT I am concerned at getting on board with them as I'm aware such a move will affect my credit rating. The only reviews I can find online are all favourable - I just wondered if anyone on MSE Forum has any experience of them...? Or advice maybe...

Looks like they are a fee charging company. If you're considering a DMP then head over to StepChange or PayPlan, these will both do the exact same thing but they won't charge you (i.e. they won't add to your debt).0 -

Thanks, Mr Mink. PayPlan looks good (especially with no fees/charges).0 -

That's quite alright. I'm with PayPlan myself and they are very good. I've also seen good things about StepChange too. The DMP mutual support thread is a great source of information if you want to go down the DMP route.0 -
Hi - Just to mention that a DMP with anyone will affect your credit rating. Most creditors will mark it down as an arrangement to pay and some may default you, even if you are paying an amount agreed with them, because the amount being paid is less than the minimum payment.
But yes - go for one of the charity ones where you know the whole of your repayment is going towards your debt.[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0 -
Hi all recently attempted to use this service and upon 1st phone
call i was amazed at the savings and promises that were given.
I was told an IVA would suit me for sure and they convinced me to part with 470 pound as 1st payment but never told me that was all for them and then a second party would deal with my situation!!!
Nor was i told that if the IVA was successful that my wife would need to return to work, anyway the second company party quickly contacted me and said no way would i qualify and then passed me back to Gw.
In the meantime as i was advised by GW i cancelled all direct debits to creditors opened another account and completely ruined my credit rating.
I spoke to GW very concerned but was reminded that there was no guarantee's despite emptying my account instantly, also make sure you read small print that says GW take no responsibility for what their advisers say- very crafty company very misleading use only FREE DEBT ADVISE BEWARE !!!!!!"0
