Manchester Trams - Fare price to Media City?

My husband and I are visiting Manchester for the day next week. We are planning to come early and park at the back of Picadilly Station where we parked in June for (about) £2.50 all day.
Later on (5pm), we are going to Media City to be in the audience of Countdown, which finishes at around 8pm. According to their website, parking at The Garage is £4.50 for 3 hours or £5.50 for 4 hours, etc.
I'm wondering if the return tram fare to Media City would be cheaper or more expensive for us than paying the parking fees. I can't seem to find the fare prices on the Metrolink website. Hope someone can help.

The Metrolink Ticket Selector says an adult off peak return from Piccadilly to MediaCityUK is £2.90.0

You could park at the Lowry Outlet mall for free, as long as you spend over £5.0

Sounds like a plan... I'd rather pay £5 for 'something' than parking fees. Is it walking distance and is there a time limit please?DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

At the Lowry, a £5 purchase gets you 4 hours free, then reduced charges after 4 hours (eg if you stay 6 hours the charge would be £2.50)0
