Halifax AIP left footprint... Is this then a hard check?

Had a Halifax AIP done last week and it shows on my experian report without the note saying other lenders cannot see this. Looks like checks I've had for for instance my hire car purchase rather than insurance quote.

It says "mortgage quotation" which my dad had after his AIP with Santander.

Would this have then been a full check? Can I assume I've passed the credit check for this stage?

Thanks

Halifax carries out only a soft search at AIP stage.

Are you sure it wasn't the submission of a full application?

  • Nope, haven't even found a house yet. Of course I've heard the Halifax AIP is a soft search but my broker told me the search was 6 years not 3.

Any chance this was in fact a hard search? Hoping it was, have two late payments (by a day) 2 years ago and it's been bugging me in terms of approval. It would certainly ease my worries if I knew we'd passed!

When you look at your credit file you can see any searches. When credit companies do it they can only see full searches, not the soft footprints.

  • It says which ones won't be seen by lenders. This one doesnt :-S

  • Just to clear this up for anyone wondering, I've just spoken to Halifax. It is 3 years but they check all addresses held in those three years as long as the broker/applicant puts all relevant addresses down.

She also said late payments which haven't gone into arrears are unlikely to have an effect on applications. Just for those who are in a similar boat to me & worrying about late payments :-)

'Quotation' suggests a footprint that only you see. It would have to be an 'application' for other lenders to see it.
