Is it not advised to request the guaranteed interview scheme? doesnt it look bad?

Options
Im applying for a finance position in the NHS and on the application i can select yes or no to this question:

f you have a disability, do you wish to be considered under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme if you meet the minimum criteria as specified in the Personal Specification?

I use a wheelchair so could say yes, but as there's the option to click no, i feel it would come across better if i said no,
this way i feel they wouldnt see e badly at all, as im not tieing their hands, forcing them to interview me with legislation

saying this, there is one requirment with regards to finance experience which i dont meet, but i see no harm in applying

if you dont ask you dont get, as they say

They are not forced to interview you, it is their policy to interview candidates who declare a disability IF they meet the essential criteria for the post.

Since you have stated that you don't meet all the essential criteria for the post, you will not be guaranteed an interview, whether or not you tick the box to declare a disability. So in this case it doesn't matter either way.

Generally it doesn't hurt to ask to be considered under this scheme if you have a disability, however I have come across a number of managers who don't understand it fully or are too scared of repercussions if they don't offer an interview even though a candidate does not meet the essential criteria. This sometimes leads to time wasted on interviewing candidates who have no chance of getting the job.

Is the "finance experience" requirement "essential" or "desirable"?
If the former and you don't have it, seeking to try to take advantage of the guaranteed interview provision won't get you an interview as you wouldn't meet the criteria.
