Hi all, I would really love to write a book about old traditions in Britain and how people used to live before the world went technology mad. What are your memories. If you wouldn't like your post to be in the book please say at the end of your post and I'll make sure it isn't included.
I think it's important to remember our traditions and family lives as they used to be. I'm interested in anyone's story. Can you tell me on your post what decade you are talking about.
My nan was a wealth of information on this subject. She used to tell me about barrow boys and the work she done during the Second World War. She lived in edgeware and remembers seeing London glowing with fire during the blitz and how incendiary bombs were dropped on the train tracks at the bottom of her garden.
She told me how she would wake up and there would be ice on the inside of her windows in the winter and how she only had one source of heat which was her open fire.
She loved to tell me of home brewed wine and growing her own fruit and vegetables. She spoke about how there was s real sense of community when she was younger and people would help each other.
I would love to hear your stories about anything you used to do, favourite meals, Christmas traditions, family rules anything you would like to share.
Thanks so much

I met the most amazing little old lady through my work that told me when she was little her Mum used to put fresh eggs, brandy and sugar in a big mixing bowl and then pop the shells in too and pop it under the bed or in the wardrobe with a tea towel on it. They'd stir it regularly until all the shell had completely dissolved (she said a few weeks) and then sieve it through a muslin cloth and put it in bottles to sell off her dad's milk float at Christmas! I know it's not my story but I loved it because it's so far removed from anything we do todayShe is in her 80s and was a child when they did this so we're talking around the 30s?
