sorting out ccj

I left work last summer and took more holiday than I was entitled although I did not realise this at the time.
I was sent a letter explaining I had to repay the extra holiday that was taken, and completely forgot about it until I got a court letter from the solicitors. I sent off the admission form, but apparently they did not receive it and sent a letter giving me a CCJ, (and I stupidly didn't send it by recorded post.). I owe approximately £700 from this and would like to sort this out. What is the best way to get to the bottom of it, or b) pay in installments?
I did actually take more holiday than entitled, my mistake.

It's a flaw in the system that you return your admission and offer of payment to the claimant (or their solicitors) and they 'forget' to tell the court.
So you then get a forthwith judgement in default. If you provide evidence to the court that you sent it, they do not accept your evidence (been there).
You can try for an instalment order using a N245 - Factsheet | Reducing payments or suspending a bailiff's warrant on a county court judgment - as there's a fee, and the form can do 2 things, I usually just use it if there is a bailiff warrant that needs to be suspended.
You could just contact the claimant with your offer. As long as it clears the debt in a reasonable period, that should be the end of it.
Either way the ccj stays on your credit file for 6 years.0 -
I presume more than 28 days since the CCJ was granted?:beer:0
