Statute Barred Debt??

Has A Quick Question
Just Checked My Credit File
First Time In Years & Noticed Debts Still Showing

My Query Is When Is The Debt Stature Barred?
How do I work this out, should I look at the record of each debt and go by the date of the first default in regards to that debt or is there a different way of working out when a debt is stature barred??

Also by me doing a serach on my own credit file will this mean I am aknowledging the debt or show the dca my new address??

Would appreciate any advice
Much appreciated
Thanks

Defaults fall from your credit file 6 years from the date that the default was recorded.

A debt is statute barred when you have not made a payment or acknowledged the debt in writing for a continuous period of 6 years. 5 in Scotland.

The acknowledgement has to be in writing. Payment is also acknowledgement.

DCAs will get your new address unless you just search at your previous address. But they might have this anyhow as phone companies and banks will create a linked address when you tell them you have moved.

If you have outstanding debts showing and you have updated your contact details with the search agency you should start planning for debt collectors letters and calls.
    Be happy...;)

As long as you don't pay or send any letters you are fine.

Most template letters for CCA request etc are deigned not to admit the account.

You might be able to figure out date last paid from the payment history on your credit report. Only you know when you act wrote to anyone about the account.

The default date may be well after last payment, or before. But if you look at it with the payment history it will give you some idea.
