gel stain in tshirt

I wondered if anyone could help me.

I purchased a tshirt £55s worth and put it in my car boot and left it there a few days however, I had bottle of tyre gel that you rub on tyres to clean them up.

It's leaked, onto my top and made a few big blobs onto my shirt. The shirt is black and the splodges look like darker spots on it. I've have it a wash and it's made no difference. I'm not sure what to try aside from soaking the whole thing in it so it covers up.

Such a shame as it was expensive and never worn!

Any tips?

Thanks

  • Try using washing up liquid on the stain, work it in to the stain then wash as usual. If that doesn't work try WD40. Hope that helps.

I wonder if Swarfega would work?

I had a read about Swarfega and will try some then washing straight after. If not ill try the washing up liquid method.

After that I think I'm stuck with it. It's been in the wash last night after being soaked in vanish for a few hours and it's not really changed it. Looks like I'm going to be soaking my top in the whole gel to match!

If washing up liquid doesn't work, try soaking it in coke then washing it again. The acid in coke breaks down all sorts of things and I've managed to get cooking oil stains out of clothes with it before so may break down the gel too.

Did you pay for it on your credit card because if so you are covered for accidental damage?

So soaking it in vanish didnt work, rubbing in Swarfega then washing didn't work and now I'm not sure what to do! I didn't buy from credit card, I didn't know they had that sort of cover though?

The image above is the stains you can see, apart from the one on the left bottom, that's wet as it's still damp from washing.

In worried that using a Dylon dye would just make the oil marks darker and still be as bad.

  • Perhaps look and see if there is a stain devil product? I think they make one specifically for lubricants and another specifically for oily stains. I've had some success with the latter. They're a bit pricey, but might be worth it in this case.

If nothing else is working - I would succumb to the tyre gel all over! Nothing to lose at this point! (unless the tyre gel is very expensive?)
