Boots No7 foundation matching service

Does anyone get on with this? I keep getting matched to a cool ivory shade which the assistant says is a perfect match for my skin which it is, but I think it looks too pale as I am used to having colour on my skin, the machine seems to match me to this colour even when I have a bit of colour from the sun.

Is it better to just use a tinted moisturiser or BB cream thats in a general shade or just use your own knowledge with what foundation shade to use?

I just got matched today. Haven't used it myself yet but assistant put it on my face in the shop and it seemed a very good match.

Have you actually bought it? If so and you think it seems too light, you could add a little more colour by using a slightly darker pressed powder on top?

  • Which foundation did you get matched to? Mine is the essentially natural one in the tube. I do get the idea of having foundation to match but I don't want to look too pale. I don't use powder, just cream blusher which does add colour but just to my cheeks.

Sorry didn't reply last night, was tired so went to bed sharp.

Anyway, I got No 7 Stay Perfect foundation. It's in a small glass pump dispenser. Matt finish, don't like shine.

The thing is you are not suppose to get colour from your foundation, it is suppose to match your skin tone and even out the complexion. Nothing more. You get colour from blusher or bronzer.

I got matched but did not like the foundation they mixed for me at all. So did not buy full size. Oh by the way Lisa Elderidge who developed the revamped Boots No7 range as parted company with them.

I'm not surprised by this at all. That gadget does the complete opposite of what she, and all other professional make up artists, says is the way to match a foundation.
  • I find the device does give the correct match, its just too pale for me. Also what happens when you get a tan, do you have to buy another foundation?

I haven't used the match service but I found that the beautifully matte shade of calico is the only foundation that matches my skin dead on. And thats with talking to the likes of MAC, clinique, guerlain.

And sixtiesgal - you don't need to buy another foundation when you're tanned, just use bronzing balls.

I got matched as calico, the palest shade, yet when I took some home to try it was much too dark a colour, really annoyed that I got matched even though it was wrong, the machine should say no match!

I was given Warm Ivory and use the Lift and Luminate. I'm still going through my first bottle, I'm very very happy with it, and will certainly buy more when I get through this one.

I am 66 though, so have problems with some foundations. This one has sufficient coverage but doesn't fall into the troughs of my wrinkles!

I got a match from the Estee Lauder make up counter, but really don't like their match or the foundation.

How are you applying it? Is it possible you are using too much and that's making it look darker?

I ended up applying it with foundation brush and then smoothing/blending with my fingers. If I put it on with my fingers, it was just too thick. Or maybe that was just me being useless. :D
