Where to buy cheap real confetti

Options
I'm looking for recommendations on where to buy cheap real (undyed) petal confetti.

I've looked on a few websites and it just seems crazily expensive when buying enough for 40 or so guests! There's actually going to be 80ish at the church, so I'm only accounting for the women throwing as it is, so I can't really reduce the amount of confetti cones much more.

Also, are rose petals particularly better than any others? I've also seen delphinium available quite a lot, but I'm not sure whether it's worth paying extra for a particular type of petal.

Finally, is it expected that the confetti matches the 'wedding colours'? I'm having white roses and gypsophila in my bouquet, but the bridesmaids are wearing teal, and I don't think I'll find many naturally teal-coloured flower petals around!

  • I have just finished making my own, have enough for 60 people (about 35 cones) as guess couples will share a cone, all for £6!

Do you have any friends/family with rose bushes? I degraded all my mums roses and then went to a local Sundays market towards the end of the day and got 45 roses for £5 and asked if they had any half dead ones they couldn't sell.

Baked them in my oven, got doilies from poundland and make my cones. Took a few hours to bake them but worth the mass saving!

I too have made my own from roses in mine and families gardens.
I didn't bake mine, just spread them out on a kitchen roll lined tray and left in the airing cupboard for a few days.

I bouhgt mine on Ebay, in personalised cones. Think it cost about £25ish for 24 cones, was in 2010 though!

Ooh, that's an idea! I don't think there's anyone near us with roses (I don't live near my family) but I'm sure tesco would oblige with some reduced ones if I time it right.

Is it a case of put it on low for a long while in the oven? I'm not sure my OH would appreciate all his clothes in the airing cupboard smelling of girly flowers! :D

I bought doilies a few weeks back and I'm nearly done with the cones, so that's one more job done. Only 3 weeks to go, eeek!
  • how i did it - oven at 100 degrees, place petals on baking tray - dont overlap them and bake for about 10 minutes, checking half way through and maybe turning over. after the 10 mins if they are slightly soft/velvety then they need a few more minutes. It was time consuming but definitely worth it!

Update: flowers were bought for a fiver at a weekend market stall, cooked in the oven on low for about 10 mins and have worked a treat :)

I've just got to fill all the cones now! Thanks for all the advice.
