All free kindle/e-books in one place?

Hi everyone

Firstly I apologise for posting a chat thread but I just wanted you all to see it.

It has been suggested for a while that a kindle thread is put on here so they can all be in one place.

I have spoken to Andrea and it is not appropriate to have a sub board so basically it either stays how it is or we do one thread for all of them.

Personally I dont think its a good idea to have one thread as I think it will be full of pages of expired ones and posts saying 'still free' or 'no longer free', I think this will result in a big thread that people will have to trawl through.

Its a shame that Amazon dont give expiry dates as it could then be managed like the cinema codes thread as we would have a date to go by but unfortunately thats not the case.

Let me know your thoughts guys and please vote, I will keep this thread open for a few days and then close it.

  • I was thinking the very same thing the other day.

It makes perfect sense and keeps the Freebie board tidy.
    Life's what you make it....

"I've got one, two, three, [STRIKE]four[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]five[/STRIKE]... senses working overtime..", XTC.

Life beyond voluntary work scares me, but what else is there?
  • Sarah, I agree.

I think it will be too difficult to find the still free ones as they will be mixed in together.

At the moment it's very easy to search 'kindle' and sort by date order, plus with the 'got it' button you can see at just a glance whether you've already got it!

very bad idea, links become outdated very quickly and having to scroll through a long list to find something you want can be very tiresome.
the present system works well because you can see the title or subject in the post title.
if it ain't broke as the expression goes.

Yes, they should be on one thread. There are quite literally hundreds of new free books every day, and we are getting more and more of them posted on this board, to the point where it is hard to see the non-kindle threads. I personally find it irritating. I wouldn't mind so much if they were personal recommendations by members here who have actually read them, but most of them aren't, they are just copy and pasted from Amazon. Like this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Sellers-Kindle-Store-eBooks/zgbs/digital-text/341689031/ref=zg_bs_fvp_p_f_341689031?_encoding=UTF8&tf=1

As to the difficulty of finding expired ones on a single thread - well, why not simply go to the last few posts? The 'good' free books - the ones by well known authors - are usually only made free for a day or even for a shorter time, so look in the most recent posts. The other free books are free because they are written by new authors, and they can be found easily by simply looking at the 100s listed on Amazon. They tend not to expire very quickly.
  • You mean something like http://uk.freereadfeed.com/ perhaps?

It just shows we are all different I prefer kindle free books listed separately as I'm trying not to spend money at the moment and therefore not interested in the free books so I prefer being able to just see quickly what's on offer

listed seperately gives you the option of using the expired button so it can be taken down so much easier.
  • I am sick of coming on the freebies board and only seeing lots and lots of free books. Like others I am not interested in free kindle books and am finding it more and more difficult everyday to see any freebies that I am interested in.

There must be a better way

I agree, I also try to check them and move them often.

  • Shame that a sub board is not possible, that seems to be the solution to me.

Agree that it is better to be able to see the book title in a thread title, rather than scrolling through lots of out of date books.
