EastCoast rewards scheme - enforced marketing emails?

Options
I've been signed up for EastCoast trains rewards scheme since it was introduced. I recently opted out of receiving their almost daily marketing emails but was not actively warned that this would remove my rewards points from my account and stop me being entitled to any more. I contacted Eastcoast directly by email and while they were very helpful and responded quickly, there wasn't much more to their response other than to copy and paste the terms and conditions into an email and inform me I had to sign back up to recieve marketing emails in order to regain access to my rewards points and to gain any more.

While I realise I can direct their unsolicited crap into my junk mail folder, it has got me wondering to what extent this is legally enforceable on their part?

Jon.

I would imagine they can enforce whatever conditions they want to in order to give you something for nothing. I'd just set up a rule that deletes the email as soon as it arrives (that's if you can easily identify the marketing ones over any others they might send that you do want to see, otherwise sending them to a folder for manual deletion would be more sensible).

    Why wouldn't it be enforceable?
