Very long hours in IT & holiday suspended for someone (update)

When I have run teams of coders there has been times that deadlines are looming and we have pulled an all nighter or a late one, but they were rare.

But in return for them giving up an evening/night I would always provide food, drinks, taxis home and offer a day off or something like offering the employee and their partner a meal out somewhere nice.

Thanks, I just think its fair that If I expect staff to pull out all the stops to deliver, they get rewarded for that effort.

If there was a situation where staff were required to work late for long periods, I would be having a serious word with the PMs, and asking them how they are managing their risks to help avoid "unpredictable waves" and how they allocate resources.

Burnt out coders are of no use to anyone.

I just planed to get in earlyish (8.15) and then leave at 5.30pm. If you plan your day around a set time, it becomes more cope able. People only stay because they see everyone else doing it - and it becomes the culture.

Yes, sometimes you need to pull long days for a few weeks - but that should be an exception and not a norm
