Can I colour my hair?

Options
I usually have a permenant colour put on my hair about every 8 weeks and am hoping to have it done at the end of August.

However, we are now due to be going out twice over the weekend and my roots are quite bad but I really want to hold out on the colour as I start a new job and want to look/feel half decent!!

Does anyone know if it would be ok to put on one of those wash in wash out ones to just get me throgh the next couple of weeks?

Would rather not start a new job with orange straw like hair!!:rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks in advance

There is nothing stopping you using a permanent colour, my hair grows so fast that I use a permanent dye roughly every 3 weeks, and it is in really good condition.

I would just use a permanent hair colour close to your one at the moment. I recommend Nice and Easy, I used colour 104 when I was blonde and it always looked fab, plus my hair was in good condition.

I've been colouring my hair for the past 40 years. It always feels soft and shiny and in good condition afterwards. You don't need an expensive one either, but if doing it yourself for the first time, do a skin test.

I used nice n easy for over 20 years, but when OLIO first came out, I liked the fact that it does not have any ammonia or harsh chemicals, I hummed and haad about it, then I thought well I will give it a go, it is the best permanent hair colour I have ever used, your air really shines with it, it doesn't feel harsh and brittle, I would recommend this to everyone. The colour I used to use was Medium ash Blonde, the same colour with OLIO is Dark Beige Blonde. It does not smell like Nice n easy, it has quite a perfumed smell, Just get the colour nearest to your own. You will never use anything else, It is £5.99 in Boots at the moment.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I am in a similar position. I have been paying the hairdresser to colour my hair for a while now but to be honest I keep thinking I could probably do it myself for a lot less.

So if you have been having your hair coloured by the hairdresser is it OK to just go out and buy a permanent colour and stick it on? Is it really that simple? My hair was last coloured about 8 weeks ago.

Like the OP I am about to start a new job too but money is tight at the moment.

I do my own using the same colour as the one the hairdresser uses. If you have a branch of 'Sally's' near you, they are quite helpful. I use the kolestan (which is Wella if you ever get Wella at the salon). It costs roughly £13 (although I get it for £8 because my friend is a hairdresser) a tube but that lasts approx 3-4 goes. I got a cheaper version of the peroxide bottle cost about £9 (I think) and I still have it nearly 18 months later with LOADS left. (Must check in case it "goes off").

So for me, I get professional colour which I find lasts the best for less cost than the packets and boxes you get. I never had success with the packets and boxes. Approx every 6-8 months, I get it done at the hairdressers and get some highlights in and then when I do my roots they fade out naturally.

On a similar topic - I have my hair cut and dyed at the hairdresser once every 8 weeks but my roots get really bad before I go and the colour (dark red) fades quite badly by then. Would I be safe to have it coloured every 6 weeks instead? My hair is very greasy naturally - don't know whether that makes any difference but it does mean I have to wash it every day.
