When to talk to redemption department?

We are approaching our end of 2 year fixed term with our current mortgage, but it's still a few months away yet - end of February. I am planning on talking to the redemption department of the mortgage company to see what mortgage products they can offer me, but I am not entirely sure when to contact them.
When is the best time to do it? I was thinking sometime in January, thereby giving me time to sort a different mortgage if I cannot get a decent mortgage from the existing company.
What's peoples thoughts?
