Air Rifle

DS (16) would like me to buy an air rifle for him to use. I'm not overly impressed, but he is a very sensible chap, has written a very impressive 'protocol of use' which includes gun being locked (my key) in the garage, ammo in my study etc etc.
So, assuming this will be a 5 minute wonder, I'd like to buy him something reasonable for plinking a few cans in the garden that we can sell on easily later
Any suggestions of circa £100 budget rifles to look at?
btw please don't start a 'guns are bad' lecture. This will be a very controlled purchase with closely monitored use.

It is possible to buy an air rifle for a lot less than £100 infact you can get loads of new guns for a lot less than £100 but they are very much considered entry level and have a poor resale value. If you beleive it is a 5 minute wonder thing go to your local gun shop ad see if they have any 2nd hand equipment or buying one of the cheapy guns may be a good option. But if you think it may be a longer term thing you will get somthing much better for your £100 if you buy a decent 2nd hand gun.
Dont forget that it will also need a gun bag/cover if it is to be transported in a public place this includes walking between the car parked on the street and your house.
It is also ilegal to fire an air gun within 50 feet of a public highway, this includes footpaths and all roads
Ohh and you will need to buy and own the rifel it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to own an air gun and buy ammunition.
I would also avoid him using the gun unsupervised if his mates are round. alone its fine in the garden but get his mates involved and who knows what the target will be. Its also illegal to shoot vermin if you are not authorised to do so.0 -
LJ - thanks for the post. I'd been considering s/h as an option - either a cheapy throwaway or a decent weapon to sell on again.
The legal stuff - he has covered in such detail you wouldn't believe - hence the me buy, him use 1st liner!
He had an answer for every question we put to him. If only he worked as hard on his GCSEs! He's even marked out the garden and designed a target system with a pellet trap0 -
Good to see a youngster being responsible and keen.
