Quite possible that your local Co-op sells Doves Farm GF baking powder. All BP contains a filler, which can be either GF or not.

Oh, and I'm not aware of gluten actually killing anyone, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you are intolerant or allergic.

It's Dr O at the co op but mine says gluten free on it. Unfortunately I do have coeliac disease, so get very ill if I eat it. Even if the symptoms aren't bad, it does a lot of internal damage :(

Dr O might do 2 different ones then.

Anyone who needs gf baking powder can use 1 part bicarb to 1 part cream of tartar - cheaper, especially if you buy bicarb in bulk for cleaning.

Thanks piecemeal, I did know this in theory BUT when I did it in the past I didn't find it worked well. When I asked around, the consensus of opinion was that the "filler" discussed above altered the proportion needed.
I bake fairly regularly, but not a great deal these days and really can't afford the time or ingredients to experiment much!
I am very grateful to everyone who has replied, this board does have knowledgeable posters!
