I enjoy writing so am currently building up my profiles on People Per Hour and Elance. I'm normally paid £20-£30 per piece which is good, but I spend quite a lot of time on each so the hourly rate is less. Plus it starts to feel like a bit of a chore after a full day at work.
I guess I should try and write faster if I want to make more money!

Can you play an instrument? I am Grade 6 standard piano and advertised on Gum*ree a few years back to get pupils, really only for a hobby as I was bored. I undercut on the price of competitors and was completely inundated with interest. At my height I was teaching 6 pupils a week charging £7.50/half hour (£15 an hour), earning £180 per month for 3 hrs/week's work, on top of the salary from my full time job. I have actually turned a lot of work down because I was too tired to be doing it every evening after work...but know taking on more pupils is always an option if I am ever struggling financially.

Currently only teach two sisters in the same house on the way home from work on a Wednesday evening, and am delighted with the extra £60 I get in my pocket each month for what is merely 1 hour's easy work per week. I have previously slaved over Valued Opinions surveys for hours to get one £10 voucher...teaching piano is definitely a more favourable option!
    Save 12k in 2014 (my target: £10 000):
    My savings: £4878.54/£7000
    Joint account savings: £2685.57/£3000
    Total:£7564.11/£10 000 (as at 26/10/14)

I hadn't thought of music tuition as a way to make extra money, i might have to dust off my trumpet! Saying that, I only ever reached grade 5 and haven't played in about 5 years. Maybe I'll just stick to the writing.

I play piano very rarely and was never that good at playing, but if you use a good beginners series of books, they are very self-explanatory. Your basic knowledge will be enough to see you through for teaching a beginner and amazingly now, some kind person puts all the exam pieces up on you tube which I play to the girls to show them how the pieces should really be played when they're preparing for exams!!

  • I work with someone whose son is very good with the guitar and he gives lessons at home, he is only 16 but apparently makes very good money. It is his hobby but he clearly has a good brain too and there is no shortage of people wanting lessons especially if you make them affordable
I am personally de cluttering big time, anything I am fed up with dusting or looking at goes, sell via various links depending on what it is, workmates to start with especially if a larger item (use Collect+ for large items) ebay the rest, I do YouGov (only one that pays and the surveys don't throw you out) Topcashback and I have been looking at all the things you can claim for but didn't know (via this site), like PPI and the host of others. The PPI I didn't actually know I had until I checked some old papers so once that is finalised that will be a small amount but still nice. Keep looking for balance transfer deals so I don't pay anymore than I need to and use all vouchers possible - the last one is keep playing the lottery, you never know :)

There are lots of survey websites that pay out and some, such as Ipsos, pay you even if you disqualify. I make about £1.00-£1.50 a week from YouGov, but far in excess from websites that do kick out when unsuitable.

Thanks for the tips! I keep meaning to pick it up again so maybe this is the sort of long-term goal I need as motivation. That's amazing about YouTube too. It really does have everything!
  • So how do you go about earning money from blogs like these? Is it purely on advertising on site?

This has nothing to do with advertising, although you can place adverts on it if you want. This is about writing product reviews on high valued items via affiliate companies like Amazon and Clickbank.

The two paths for competiting well in Google are low competition keyword phrases and/or new products in the marketplace.

The key is enjoying what you do, as you'll be able to write more productive and relevant reviews.

Isn't it better to write reviews on lower priced items, as the higher the price the less likely people are to buy it.

What would you class as high and low prices on Amazon?
