I refer you back to my link re Beats - the manufacturing company, Monster, had NO prior experience of making headphones prior to launching them in... 2008, was it?
Sennheiser on the other hand have been making them since (at least) the 1970s. Which do you think will be the better product?0 -

Surely this deserves a prize for the most illogical post of the day?
Have you never heard of 'invention'? Do you believe new companies can't out think old ones?
I happen to know that Sennheiser makes exceptionally good headphones - but that doesn't mean its the only company that can.0 -

OK, I invite you to tell us what degree of 'invention' was shown by Monster when they started to manufacture Beats.
What new tech did they 'invent' to put into their phones?
I submit that the only out-thinking they did was in the promotion and marketing arena, not in audio performance or build.0 -

They'll probably serve you well. If they should, by any small chance, go wrong, you can bet that Sennheiser will be able to repair or provide parts for them. Look at this page - these are the same model that I've had since the 1970s, reviewers on this page were able to get spares for them in 2009, almost 40 years after they were first made. Try doing that with Beats Dr Dre in 40 years' time!

I wear headphones *a lot* when I'm out and about and my favourite (having been a Sennheiser PX100 owner myself, yellow retro edition if anyone's interested) is the Koss PortaPro. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00001P4ZH/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=electronics
Usually around £16.99 on Amazon (not at the moment though), but I would stress buying from Amazon or a reputable seller as I got fakes a while back from a very rude seller on ebay: the headphones stunk of glue and had a variety of faults after reading up on it on head-fi.org forums. http://www.head-fi.org/t/696727/latest-news-in-the-world-of-fake-koss-porta-pros and http://www.head-fi.org/t/439656/possibly-fake-portapro-help-me (for anyone interested). I'm currently lusting after the new, On Fire edition.
I would say, for the price, they are the best you can get. They're foldable, comfortable, though I know some are put off by the retro looks. They're not big cans at all, quite discreet, which I also like.
Even better, Koss have a Lifetime Guarantee, which I have used twice.
It was free when I used it. I sent my details and receipt to Hama (who deal with Koss UK warranties) and in both cases they sent a brand new pair. I'm not sure if it's slightly changed as it was around two years ago now. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Claiming-on-the-lifetime-warranty/forum/Fx34ZP5KLH73G0Q/Tx3CUAG0MKGN4J1/1?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00001P4ZH
Failing that, my current go-to headphones are AKG K450s. They have a plug-in lead that connects in two places, thus reducing any tension or pull on the cable. Which is usually how I kill my headphones!

Hope you find headphones you love!0 -
I would agree with the K450 (and I assume K451) not staying on the ears too well. I do have to adjust them quite a bit as the faux leather on the cans is quite slippy.
PortaPros stay put (they have a "Comfort Zone" clip that can be set from Firm to Light). The only thing that bugs me about them is that the metal band can catch on my hair, what with me being a girl with rather long locks...:p0
