Old debt to pay

Hi I'm hoping someone can offer me a bit of advise.

My husband has about £7000 of old debt (2 accounts with Robinson way). He currently pays £10 to each account every month. I have checked noddle and experian and these debts are not showing on the reports. Is this because they are over 6 years old?

We are wanting to clear these debts but will no way be able to raise that amount of money, will be lucky to raise maybe £1500. If we do manage to raise the money and Robinson way will accept a settlement will this refresh the debt on the reports, and then we have to wait another 6 years for them to disappear?

Any advice on how to deal with this would be greatly received. Just want the debt gone. We would like to save for a mortgage but this just feels like it will never be in reach.

Thanks for reading xxxx

Assuming the debts have dropped off because defaults are now over 6 years old, then no, settling the account will not make them reappear on your reports.

Could offer a full and final offer.

The amount would depend on a few things.

If taken out pre April 2007, then could try a CCA request. If they don't have the signed original then they can't get a CCJ and might settle for 30% or even less once they realise you know what's going on.

Failing that, might settle for 50%.

Defaults cannot be registered again with a new date, so these debts cannot reappear on your credit report - unless you were taken to court and a judgment obtained. But I think that's unlikely given the circumstances.
