We have both sides of the family who will need to travel and probably stay both the night before and the night of the Wedding. How far in advance will hotels block book rooms for? Our wedding isn't until next Sept.

Also, is it better to block book rooms or to just offer guests a range of hotel options?

    Thanks

What I did was I called the hotel yesterday and told them I was getting married at their venue (the hotel is owned by a different company than the wedding side) he gave me the prices of the rooms if everyone books all the rooms and he will hold them at them prices for the next 30 days. I get married in April.

We have also suggested a few other local hotels one being a travelodge and in most peoples budget.

When I was a bridesmaid last year we stayed with the bride in a suite the night before which they paid for and paid for our own rooms the night of the wedding. Here was talk of us contributing to the suite but they decide to pay in the end :)

Thanks Steph. I take it you have sent your invites given the limitation on how long they will keep them for?

I am keen to allow everyone to get a good rate particularly as it will be Edinburgh in early Sept as the festival is wynding down but don't want to send out invites and things too early :)

No not yet but sent a message around to immediate family like MIL2B etc etc she can pass it on to her sisters etc etc it will get around there is only 30 odd rooms available so once they are booked they are booked :) Invitations are going out at the beginning of October. It's a shame they will only hold them for 30 days for me :( hopefully I can push it and get a bit longer.

Gosh no! Ours was included in the package so didnt pay anything for accomodation. We reserved all the rooms in the hotel so nobody else would be able to be there (haha sneaky I know) and there was a discount for our guests. Once you pay for one person there's always someone else you should pay for.

We sent ours in the Feb - quite early for a wedding in early Sept, but our date was the Illuminations Switch-On date and Robbie Williams was in town!

I would suggest you send save the dates with your hotel accomodation info - we are going to a wedding in Edinburgh next May and rooms are a ridiculous price already and cheap rooms are in very short supply.
  • If you want to and can afford it, then I think it's a lovely gesture, but equally I don't think you should feel like you have to pay for their hotel rooms.

I need to have the money discussion with my parents (still, I know) to work out my final budget, but based on my sisters' weddings we may pay for my grandparents' hotel rooms if the budget will stretch, plus OH's hotel the night before, and everyone else can sort themselves out. There are six hotels near our venue that do discounts for people coming to our wedding, plus it's in a relatively touristy city (although at a quieter time of year) so there are plenty of hotels nearby even if people don't stay in one of those six.

  • We are having our wedding in Newcastle and a lot of the guests are travelling from West Yorkshire. We are not paying for any rooms other than our own as once you start there's no stopping and to stop arguments we felt that it would be easier this way.

No one has raised it and we have offered to organise the bookings so that it is less stressful for everyone, but otherwise we aren't paying for anyone.
