Personal development training as part of redundancy planning?

Options
As per the title, redundancy looms for me at the end of September and my employers have offered to pay for any training (within reason) that I might need to help me find another position. As I'm quite specialised and technical, there isn't anything suitable for me to do in terms of technical skills that isn't expensive and time-consuming, but I did wonder whether a general 'programme' of personal development skills might work.

For example, I'd love to find a 3-5 day course of small modules on things like personal effectiveness, presentation skills, negotiating and influencing skills, career planning, etc etc.

I know I can do them all separately, but they will be a minimum of 1-2 days and a few hundred pounds each. I'd like to roll them all up into one course.

Has anyone heard of a course like this or come across one on their travels?

If not, does anyone have any recomendations for training providers who do good courses on these kinds of things and who might be willing to put together a bespoke course for me?

  • Contact your local FE College as they may well have access to ESF Skills Support for Redundancy funding which can pay for this kind of training. Main criteria are that you are recently redundant, at risk of redundancy or under notice.

If they have this funding then they will run these types of courses regularly and you/your employer wont have to pay anything!

I don't know of anything on paper like that, without you doing night courses etc, safest thing you can do is contact your local College and speak to them and see what they can recommend.

Although, I can personally recommend a website called Lynda.com
I used this while I was in Uni and am still signed up to it as they have loads of online video courses and are constantly updating them.
They've got stuff from business skills, effective public speaking to something like web design, they have all sorts, maybe worth you looking into, if you can't find an actual course you want to do it may be worth requesting a membership to this or looking into Open University? :)
