It is great to be here so that I can discuss moneysaving. I feel that mentioning it outside this forum will make people think I am cheap or stingy and I really am not. (Honest!) here, I can share my satisfaction at getting one over on the banks to my heart's content.
Welcome, and enjoy working towards financial independence.
SquirrelPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

This is so true! I mentioned it to one friend at work and she looked at me in a puzzled way and said "oh err right, sounds interesting..." :rotfl:

My mortgage is with the Co-op too and I've just rung to make my first overpayment, and adjust my direct debit for regular ones.
Whether I could make overpayments online didn't really factor when I took the mortgage out.
I'm going to keep ringing up, it's freephone and open good hours and although the security questions are a pain being mortgage free is more important.
Good luck!Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Hi, welcome

I am with chelsea who don't let you op online. However I can still op through my nationwide bank account as I asked for the sort code acct no from chelsea and just pay direct like any other bill, might that be a possibility for you ?
Anyway, best of luckMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I'm not a MFW (yet!), still a MW!!! But I find reading the MFW diaries so motivating and I can't wait to have my own. Should be early 2014 at the earliest, but it's getting closer!
I can offer no advice, but good luck in your journey! (I hope to join you soon)

Well, here's a dilemma I've never had before. I'm just about to send off another £500 OP but my dad mentioned the Royal Mail shares might be better in the long run... It's a minimum £750 investment which I could scrape together if I raid my kitchen renovation fund but I don't know which is the better option.
Can anyone advise?!Mortgage balance £21,251.37 2 Oct 2019

If you're asking advice on here then it has to be no. If you're prepared to do some research about owning shares in one company then you can make your own decision. Simples
.
Seriously, owning shares in one co can be a massive success (think Microsoft) or disaster (Lloyds TSB). The Royal Mail shares are unlikely to make you a decent profit quickly and if you want the money short-medium term for a kitchen then I'd stick to that. If however you want to build a portfolio of shares and hold them then maybe they'd be a good buy.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
