ETA again - no, it blocked me again, but then I remembered the smiley in the quoted post, so I've removed it before posting again. Maybe third time lucky?

We are going back to basics and using the original form of smileys ... text representations.
So the character : immediately followed by a ) gives a
and the character ; immediately followed by a ) gives a

For some, you type in a character string e.g. : eek : (without the spaces) gives :eek:

Oh, and someone who decided on the filenames etc at MSE Towers doesn't seem to know that smiley is the original (preferred) spelling ...

To be fair, that is in the forum software and not a decision by MSE. Same on other sites that use it.
