Hello,
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me. Last week I cut up around 5 Kilo's of onions from the lottie to put in the freezer so they are available all during winter. My dilemma being that my freezer now smells very strongly of onions, I didn't worry to much but I took out some HM bread for the other half's sandwiches today and the bread reeked of onions!
As I still have quite allot of onions still in the freezer and I will do probably till next season, is there any way to either stop the smell or curb the smell?? I'm willing to try anything as I will be growing more onions next year so will be going through all this again.
The onions are sealed in those zip type seal-able freezer bags and my freezer is the normal under cupboard shelf freezer.
Thanks in advance for any help

Try putting a bowl of bicarbonate of soda in the freezer, it should absorb the worst of the smell.
Also, double-seal the onions in an extra ziplock bag and do the same for other stuff you put in the freezer.

Once the bicarb has done it's job put a few drops of essential oils or vanilla extract something like that in the freezer.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Not sure why you are freezing the onions? If you dry them they should keep for months.

Hi thanks for the reply, I am freezing them because I have no-where to store them, I have been told on several occassions and read on several forums that a shed is not a suitable place to store produce and thats the only thing I have to store, well apart from the freezer!
Will give the bicarb a go and double seal everything.
Thanks again!Nessy x
