Dental abscess experiences please

Whilst on holiday last week I discovered I have a large dental abscess. I've been having pain in my jaw and tooth for months but the dentist couldn't find a cause and thought it may be caused by teeth grinding.
I saw a dentist in Portugal who put me on antibiotics. I'm seeing my own dentist tomorrow and am anxious about losing the tooth.
I also don't know if this will be treatable on the NHS?
I'd appreciate any advice re possible options etc.

My abscess formed a lump on bottom jaw. The dentist drilled through the offending tooth to drain it then capped it. Tempting fate now but since then its been fine.
Good luck at the dentist's tomorrow.0 -
Oh thanks. It's good to hear something positive. I realise each case can vary dramatically though....
I have quite a big hump over the infected tooth but muck seems to be draining right at the end of the gum. It's a mucky business. Interesting that your jaw was affected.

Get a night guard made by your dentist, helps with the grinding0

Thanks. I've just started using one and it has seemed to help already.
I've seen the dentist today.
She has referred me to the dental hospital to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed as the tooth isn't infected just the gum.
Hopefully that will help with the jaw issues as well.0
