casual worker contracts

Hi, I am a staff nurse at my local hospital employed on a 20hr contract. To earn more money i do `bank` shifts which is an internal system for matching staff with wards who are short. There are no guaranteed hours and any `bank` shifts worked are paid weekly instead of the normal monthly salary. This week, the nurse bank have informed us that we will all be taking a pay cut( mine is£1.60) an hour and that we will soon be issued with Casual Worker Contracts. Will this be then classed as a second job and therefore subject to increased income tax?

Tax is calculated on your total earnings for the year, it does not matter if you have one, two, or any number of jobs, you pay tax on the total earnings of these jobs.
What tax codes are being used at the moment?0 -
Am on basic personal allowance for both. I`m sure in the past I have paid more tax when I have had 2 different jobs?0

Can you be specific and say what the tax code is for each job eg 944L for main job BR for second job. If you are getting the full basic personal allowance for each job then you are being under-taxed.
Tax has been calculated on total earnings however many jobs you have for as long as I can remember and probably before that. The impression of higher tax on a second job comes from the way tax is usually split between two jobs. Usually all your tax allowance goes on your main job and you pay tax on all your earnings for the second job but the amount of tax you pay on the two jobs added together is the same as you would pay if that amount was earned in one job.0
