Mortgage Application

Hi guys,

New member here but a long time viewer of the website.

I am looking to apply for a mortgage on a property with my other half with me as the first applicant and her as the second. We checked out credit reports a few months back and everything was on order. We have found a place that we want to put a bid in for so decided to recheck out reports and it is shown that my other half is not registered on the electoral role any more. It must have expired recently!!

Obviously I don't want to be waiting months for the council to update their records before putting in a bid for the house and we have a 25% deposit for the place plus good credit histories.

What do you think the likely outcome of a mortgage application will be based on my other half not being registered?

Appreciate your help guys! :)

  • The application wouldn't be rejected solely on the basis that your OH is not registered on the Electoral Roll especially when you have 25% deposit to put down.

You should be ok, they may just want evidence your partner has lived at that address for however long they have lived there for - this could be old bank statements for example but it depends on the rest of the case and the how fussy the lender is.

Who completed the electoral roll return for her household last October? They have removed her, for some reason.

  • Thanks for the info guys. My OH called the council and found out that she is in fact of the electoral roll. It turns out that there was a typo on the name on the latest application so that means that the credit agency can't see it.

There are going to sort it out within 28 days for us so depending on our offer being accepted, we may go ahead with the application anyway.

    Thanks.
