Appealing a failed penalty fare appeal.

I recently received a penalty fare notice on First Capital Connect when travelling though North London a few weeks ago. I had forgotten to touch in as I had been feeling unwell from starting anti-depressants that weekend, despite having put £30 on my Oyster card that morning specifically for the purpose. I ususally buy a Zone 1-5 travelcard for this journey but as I was only working two days that week, I decided to use pay as you go on Oyster. I appealed the penalty fare to the IPFAS, arguing my case and was told that my appeal had been unsuccessful today. Are there any ways in which I can get this decision overturned, as I always pay my way on the trains and this was a genuine mistake on my behalf. I'm wondering whether I can further argue it on the basis that the penalty fare notice I received was not filled out in section 2 with my name, address or signature, since clearly the real reason I didn't touch in was not acceptable.
Nationwide CC £878.63; Barclaycard £7476.03.

My understanding is that you received a Penalty Fare because the inspector believed you had only made a mistake.
If the inspector had thought you were trying to avoid paying the fare, his actions would've been different, possibly leading to prosecution.
Tough as it may seem, you appear to have been treated appropriately.0 -
unfortunately u ave fallin foul of a cash generating scam. which penalises honest people who make mistakes on the transport system
u cud try one or both of these higher authorities

Are you a regular customer with that train company? I once got the penalty fare refunded from the train company after contacting customer services.0

.... as I always pay my way on the trains and this was a genuine mistake on my behalf.
This is exactly why you were given a Penalty Fare. They are used for passengers who are travelling without a valid ticket but are believed to have made a genuine mistake. Had there been any suspiscion that you had been deliberately trying to avoid the fare then you would have been reported for possible prosecution.
To quote another post, this does indeed penalise people who have made honest mistakes. However, that's sadly the way the world works. Make a mistake and it will normally cost you in one way or an other. Can I help?0 -

The guy didn't pay. His circumstances of why don't matter, it's the fact he didn't pay.
Plus, I personally wouldn't take advise from someone who cannot spell "you", "have" or other simple words.
It's unfortunate but the OP made a mistake. Such as people who make the honest mistake of not turning off the motorway, then realising the next junction isn't for 20 miles.
If you make a mistake, swallow your pride and deal with it.0 -

£20 or twice the full single fare to the next stop for a mistake. come on now thats on the same scam level as parking tickets issued by private car parks.anotheruser wrote: »Plus, I personally wouldn't take advise from someone who cannot spell "you", "have" or other simple words.
cheers 4 that, if i ever need ur advice, i'll give u the special signal. the special signal is me being sectioned under the mental health actanotheruser wrote: »It's unfortunate but the OP made a mistake. worthless comparison. theres no jobsworth at the next junction to issue u with a penalty fare if u make that mistakeFares Advisor & Oyster Specialist - Newdeal/ukRail Fares Workshop Accredited0 -
I'd base your arguiment on the fact that their ticket was completed incorrectly. Make sure that the stastion you boarded the train has the required signage. Many don't0
