On the Featured page of the iBooks store they are offering free kids books. First in Series.
The books are in age groups from per-school to GSCE revision. There are a few in each age group.

I had to open the app on an iGadget, tap store, then "first in a series", but am now downloading a wodge of reading for us all to enjoy.
