Help with Re-banding council tax in Scotland
snoweasy
I have recently moved to a new house in Scotland and took into consideration the council tax band into our monthly outgoings. However the council want to come and visit as there is an extention on the house and perhaps re-band us. Has anyone else had this done to them and how do I go about this meeting. I believe the council are moving the goal posts to make more money. Why will an extention to a house make a difference to the banding? Is the individual house now banded or the street?
Any thoughts would be gratefully received

Nothing to do with the council moving goalposts.
CT legislation allows for the current owner of a dwelling to improve or extend it without the CT band being increased. However when the property is next sold, the band can then be increased.
The Assessor will have been informed of the extension and following his inspection will decide whether or not the extension warrants a band increase. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
