Debt diaries Are they getting in the way??

Hi
I am one who thinks that well established posts could be in a sub-board. It really is important that new people can see how others have tacked difficult situation, for inspiration, but there are many mornings when a new poster is on page three by 10am.
Some times all I do is search back on page 6 and look for anything to which no-one has responded recently, and give it a bump, for fear it will disappear. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Interesting debate!!..I for one love the diaries as this is where I got my inspiration from and there are usually some good tips to pick up from them though and personally I don't think they detract from the other posts at all as most of the people that have diaries on here ..write on them and then go through checking the other posts and offering help there...
It's often interesting to see where people save money and how they go about it...going from desperate feelings to happiness...it's a large circle as what you discover from one place you can pass onto another place...
Discussions also come about the friday saturday party nights ...whether that detracts as well...as some people can't afford to go out and have no company...it's a social life for them...it's each to their own I think...0 -
I think the diaries are great and sometimes are what gets me to this board, where I then go on to offer some 'wisdom:rolleyes: ' to other people. Some days, like lots of people I have an off day and just feel like a bit of chat when I'm aking 10 minutes out of working. If the diaries were on a sub board I would probably linger there.
I also think they're great for showing new people the ups and downs we all face or have faced on our paths to being debt free. I know a couple of diaries have made me sit and read from page 1 to the last page in one go, because I got so engrossed. Oakdale Minx was one (wish she would come back), OberonSH is another... where is she by the way?
The diaries highlight issues we all face from time to time, some people aren't up to posting themselves, so they can use the experience and advice from the posts in the diary to get help.
I would really hate to see the diaries go or for people to think they shouldn't be 'cluttering up' the board with them.:A

The thing with the diaries is that they bring "eyes" - repeat business if you like.
The dilemma is whether you'd rather be page 3 of a busy forum, or page 1 of a deserted one?
It's a perennial question that will only be resolved in the same way that the "social threads" question was resolved. By actually splitting the diaries off and seeing if the concept sinks or swims."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I asked the same question just a few days ago, as I am building up courage to start my own. My concerns were that it wouldn't be interesting OR amusing, but everyone came out in very strong support for it and said I should absolutely do it.
I was also worried that eventually people would say that there are too many, but at the end of the day I agree with what SS has said, and it's up to each person to do what helps them above all else.xxDFW #414, MoneySaver, Income Booster

I don't tend to read the diarys - mainly because most of them have zillions of posts, and I'm lazy! (have been known to sneak a peek at work...) However I do look back through the pages to see if I've missed anything new, I might have missed something helpful!
Do people just read page one then? How odd!0 -
Hi
If it was not for a debt diary I found whilst looking on this section of the forum i would still be digging myself a big hole. It was that diary that motivated me to the place i am now.
My first visit i looked under DFW. Not so sure i would have looked under 'diarys'
Just my opinion mind

Ps Good thread though0 -
I think a number of relevant things have been bought up here.
I started my diary as a support mechanism for myself. the same thing anyone coming to the boards is looking for, support. If people found it interesting or amusing that was fantastic but it was my place in a very lonely world to spill my feelings out, pretty much how anyone would during a night in with a good mate sharing your troubles. this was me asking for support, it just came in the form of a diary.
The social aspect is very very important to a lot of people who don't have anywhere else to turn. I've had much more contact witht he outside world since i started my diary and my mood, resolve to sort the situation and confidence has improved dramatically. I hope that diaries continue to be allowed.

I kind of agree about SOA's not getting as much response as they should. I knowI posted mine a while ago and got only a handful of responses. I haven't taken it personally but it was quite disheartening.
I personally haven't looked at any of the diaries, purely cos I don't have the time to sit and read one all the waqy through! I think it's be a great idea to put them in a sub forum.
