Ball Gown?

Hi. I am about to graduate in a few weeks and would like to buy or hire a nice ball gown. I am looking at spending no more than about £100 on the gown as I've got to get a shawl/cardy thing/ shoes/ handbag etc. Where can I look? I live in Guildford and am willing to travel to travel in local area eg Woking,Aldershot etc or go to London. I also have a phobia of germs (OCD) so buying from a charity shop/ebay/second hand etc is out of the question but might be able to cope with hired (don't ask - I don't understand the logic here either).
Have looked at the lovely ones in Debenhams but they don't fit as I am quite curvy. I am a size 16/18.
Many Thanks

Have you tried bridesmaid dresses on e-bay - not all used - quite a lot new - also look out for sample sales at bridal boutiques.0

Tk max is great and not expensive, they tend to have only a few of each dresses so not everyone is wearing the same dress good luck and have a great evening.Would love to be a "Yummy Mummy" but more a "Slummy Mummy"!!:rotfl: :rotfl:0

I can definetly second tkmax i got a beautiful dress from there for my fiance's graduation ball and everyone kept asking where i got it from and the best thing was it only cost £26! :j0

BhS are currently selling off all their current bridalwear, some of the bridesmaid dresses would make great ball gowns - I picked up a lovely dark burgandy silk dress in there on Sat and managed to negoiate a further tenner off the sale price because a button was loose. Worth a shot if you have one near you.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

If you look seperate top and skirt that look like a gown you can get a larger top size for the curves and it'll make it look like you've spent more on it to make it a perfect fit:D , places like BHS usually have quite a good selection0

I got a lovely dress from Monsoon in the end - they all fitted my curves and I found a gorgeous jade green one for £75. If I hadn't found one there I was off to try TKmaxx. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I'm really looking forward to my graduation ball now.Making my money go further with MSE :j

Also try vintage clothes fairs you will find something no one else has got and they can be really reasonable. You don't say where you are from so look on Antique websites to find local fairs that specialise in vintage clothes!
Have fun! :j :j0
