No. You are completely wrong. People are not made redundant. Posts are made redundant.

It doesn't appear so when someone is genuinely dismissed on the grounds of redundancy but their exact job is still there but simply being done by a different employee.

In reality the person is redundant in that position.

It can be difficult to accept this kind of response, especially after the experience you've gained over sixteen years and the previous loyalty you've shown towards the business.

If there's new people running the show then, they might want their own team in with fresh ideas and do away with past employees. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but there's no point in dwelling on it, just take it on the chin and move on with your life.

Yes sorry I wasn't clear. If there are 8 roles and they want to make 2 redundant then the two people who fit those roles who are chosen for that role are made redundant for a reason.

    Miso Pretty,

do you honestly think you are not over-qualified for this role? As an employer I would be wary of hiring someone who has worked in the same area and at more senior level. This sounds like a step back for you, maybe making you look desperate? One of the concerns would be that you would take over from your manager (as in tell them what to do), take a better job as soon as opportunity arises or just not be that interested in the job as it's below your qualifications anyways. Maybe the company wants someone who will grow, learn and find it more fulfilling. You must remember that the's plenty of unemployed people looking for jobs and if HR have to select 8 people for interviews and there's 100+ applications it is not a surprise that you do not make the cut.
