Applying for Mortgage

Hiya. Having been looking for a house for the past year I have finally found the house ideal for me. I have had an offer accepted at £105,000 and have a 15% deposit to put down. The problem is I have a default which ends in 8 months time which is settled for the amount of £1500. The default is with Barclays bank for a student loan. My question is if this is going to effect the chances of me getting a mortgage. I earn £29240 and have no other loans etc. I have organised a meeting with the mortgage advisor at Halifax and also with an Independent Financial Advisor. What is the chance Im going to find a mortgage deal for me.
Thanks for an advice.

There will be options available to you without doubt based on what you have said. Rates of under 5% should be easily achievable.

  • Thank you for your response. That does make me feel happier. Should I go through the Independent advisor or stay with Halifax?

A broker will include halifax in their searches - there is no harm seeing halifax but seems like a bit of a waste of time if your broker will include them anyway.
