Any Success stories re Halifax Endowment Mis selling?

Hi, has anyone had any experience of trying to claim for Mis selling with the Halifax BS?
We were origianally sold a Scottish Amicable Endowment through the Leeds Permanent BS. ( Now Halifax )
I have appproached the Prudential who took over from the Scottish Amicable, but they say that we have to claim to the Halifax. They say that we were sold a policy through an Independent Financial Adviser. How can that be when we were being sold a policy through a BS! I am confused.
Any success Stories?
Would be great to get some encouragement as I am finding it all a bit over- whelming trying to find the right people to claim to.

Going back in time, some societies did have local arrangements with IFAs. Others acted as representatives of the insurance company. What date did you start yours?
Also, you need to look at what Leeds Perm did and not Halifax as they operated differently. I dont know if you want to change your title to show Leeds Perm rather than Halifax.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi, this was sold to us in Dec 1988.
The man who sold it was the Branch manager of the Leeds Permanent BS.
Fortunately we still have all the paperwork re the mortgage and endowments, but I have just found it all really confusing. No wonder I was an easy target. We were happy with our repayment mortgage, but our BS gave Endowment the big sell and we fell for it hook line and sinker!

Go back and tell Halifax this. There is a regular poster here called Defender of the Weak and he deals in endowment claims and is bound to know the Leeds Perm arrangements back then. Hopefully he will be along soon to post a response. The man who sold it was the Branch manager of the Leeds Permanent BS
May not be a bad thing though. Pru have got an excellent record and have stated that they anticipate all endowments maturing in surplus this year. Scot Am had a 95% success rate last year and 94% the year before so its not all bad news.We were happy with our repayment mortgage, but our BS gave Endowment the big sell and we fell for it hook line and sinker!
If you are going to have an endowment, then a Scot Am/Pru endowment is not a bad one to have.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If memory serves the Leeds were independent at the time so this may be causing the Prudential some confusion. Also the record keeping from the time for both the Leeds and Prudential, coupled with lack of knowledge of call centre staff just makes things worse. Initially return to the Halifax with this info as dunston suggests.
If you would like to pm me the detail for any other info please do or post again0 -
Hi, thanks for that.
I have got copies of the correspondence with the Leeds Perm at the time. God bless my Hubby who has annoyed me over the years with his hoarding habit. He keeps everything like this. It may pay off this time!
I have spoken to the Pru a couple of times this weak. Hope this doesn't sound racist -but they seem to have a call centre in India, who quite frankly hadn't got a clue.
They didn't know that the Leeds "Premium" BS didn't exist any more!
I will certainly be contacting the Halifax asap and see if I can get any joy from them.
I presume that they have made this confusing to put people off claiming for misselling.0 -
They dont make this confusing to put people off, they are just serially incompetent0

You're not wrong. But they are not above a bit of additional bamboozling if it suits them, IMHO.Trying to keep it simple...
