  • Hello all and congratulations to yorkshirekev :T

For me, the Debt Free Date next October is clearance of all unsecured debt, leaving just the mortgage.

My plan after that is to continue as I have been so I can be Mortgage Free! My husband has a health condition which means that for long periods of time he cannot work. Although he has had some treatment we never know when a flare up will come.

To be both debt free and mortgage free would mean no worry, no stress and a happier life.

  • To be able to save for the first time in our married life.
Never to find myself waiting for the next payday to arrive.

Married for 25 years and always managed to get by but never seem to be able to save.

once my unsecured debts are paid (dec 2014) will split my debt payments between saving and overpaying mortgage.

I only think about credit cards and overdraft as debt. The mortgage is a lot less than the equity in the house, so I don't think of that as a debt.

I would like to have no debt, money saved in case I needed to replace my car or repair it - about £1,000 - and money saved for other reasons, ideally £1000 as a safety net and £1000 for a holiday.
